How to tell a real settlement from a scam
October 5, 2026 · 3 min read
Real settlements never ask you to pay a fee to claim your share. If a site asks for payment up front, close it.
Look for a case name and number, a deadline, and a court-approved notice. The administrator's site should match the details in that notice.
Be careful with links in unexpected emails or texts. Go to the settlement website directly instead.
Finally, only share the information the claim form genuinely needs. You should not need your full Social Security number.
